Evening and weekend MBA

Flex-Option

(online + on campus)

At Berkeley Haas, we want to prioritize flexibility in participation, adapt to the changing environment, and enable learning from anywhere. That's why we offer a flexible format that allows you to earn the same high-quality MBA without the commute.

Choose your own adventure

For the first half of the program you takecore subjectsonline wherever it suits you best. Online courses will be a mix of live and on-demand courses. You will attend online at a set time each week—Tuesdays and Thursdays from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. Pacific Time—for about half of your coursework. The rest is done on a schedule that works for you.

When you begin taking electives, you can either continue to participate online or come to campus for face-to-face classes. The best from both worlds.

If you choose to complete your electives online, you only need to attend three times in personcharacteristic immersion events, strategically planned throughout the program (with two additional optional face-to-face events).

  • Electives can be taken either online or in person. For face-to-face classes, we offer electives on a weekday or on a Saturday. For online electives, schedules vary based on faculty availability.

What is the difference between selecting an evening or weekend cohort and selecting the flex cohort?

  • The Flex cohort has online core classes. Core classes are taken in the first three semesters of the traditional 6-semester, three-year program.
  • Flex cohort core courses include synchronous and asynchronous material weekly. Synchronized classes are held on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. Pacific Time. Students have approximately four additional hours of asynchronous content per week.
  • The other cohorts are taught in person on the UC Berkeley Haas campus and meet either two evenings a week or all Saturday.

Is the ending the same?

Yes. The Flex cohort is part of our Berkeley Haas Evening & Weekend MBA program, which gives you the same life-changing Berkeley MBA degree as all our other top-level MBA programs.

Core classes are expected to consist of approximately half synchronous content and half asynchronous content. Electives may deviate from this distribution depending on the subject area.

What computer equipment do I need to participate?

  • You need a device that supports video conferencing.
  • Faculty expects all students to be on camera during class, so you should also have access to a stable broadband internet connection.
  • Special headphones also help with the online experience.

How are team projects processed?

  • The Evening & Weekend MBA Program Office organizes study teams within each cohort for core classes. Group projects are carried out with your study team.
  • These assigned study teams will continue throughout your first year of core courses.

Admissions

Does the Flex option use the same application?

Yes. It is the same application as our Berkeley Haas Evening & Weekend MBA program as it is part of the same program - just a new cohort option that offers remote access.

Do I have to do the GMAT/GRE/EA?

Yes. The same standards apply as the Flex cohort is part of the Berkeley Haas Evening & Weekend MBA program.

How many places are available in the Flex cohort? Who gets priority?

(Video) Berkeley Haas MBA application secrets

Like all evening and weekend cohorts, approximately 70 students are enrolled in the Flex cohort. Students are admitted regardless of cohort preference and assigned to cohorts based on space availability. Although we reserve some spots for applicants in each round, we cannot guarantee that many spots will be available in later rounds. If you have a preference or need for a specific cohort, we encourage you to apply in earlier rounds to increase your chances of being first-choice.

Is my admission contingent/influenced by my cohort preference?

No. The admission decision is made independently of your cohort preference. However, we cannot guarantee that we will be able to honor your cohort preference when renewing your admission offer. Therefore, if you have a strong preference or need for a particular cohort, we encourage you to apply in earlier rounds to increase your chances of being the first choice.

Can I only apply for the Flex cohort?

No. You are applying to the Berkeley Haas Evening & Weekend MBA program and must meet the same competitive standards regardless of which cohort you join (Flex, Evenings or Weekends). If you are only able to participate in the Flex cohort, please indicate this in the cohort preference section of your application. If you are only able to attend the Flex cohort, we encourage you to apply in earlier rounds as there may be significantly fewer places available later in the application cycle.

When are the application deadlines?

Theapplication deadlinesare not specific to Flex. They are the same for all cohorts in the Berkeley Haas Evening & Weekend MBA program.

Does it matter in which round I apply?

Although we reserve some spots for applicants in each round, space may be limited in later rounds. If you strongly prefer or need the Flex cohort, we recommend applying in earlier rounds to increase your chances of getting your first pick.

Online Features

How is this different from an online MBA?

  • Almost all "online" MBAs are taught asynchronously, using recorded lectures and other online asynchronous teaching tools (simulations, discussion forums, etc.).
  • The Flex cohort can expect extensive synchronous engagement with Haas faculty in the regularly scheduled distance learning sessions.

How are the tasks handed in?

Our learning management platform bCourses (based on the Canvas application) has straightforward upload processes for required achievements, in addition to online discussion forums that can be used to increase asynchronous engagement.
